1. What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They let the site remember certain information between page loads or visits. Cookies set by this site are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by other services (like a CDN or analytics provider) are called third-party cookies.

2. What cookies we use

Essential cookies

These are required for basic site security and functionality. They cannot be turned off.

Name Purpose Provider Expires
__cf_bm Bot management. Distinguishes between human and automated traffic to protect the site. Cloudflare 30 minutes
_cfuvid Rate limiting. Helps Cloudflare manage traffic from the same client. Cloudflare Session

Consent cookies

These remember your cookie preference so we do not have to ask every time you visit.

Name Purpose Provider Expires
cf_consent Stores your cookie consent choice. Cloudflare / KindMeans 1 year

Analytics cookies

If Cloudflare Web Analytics is enabled on this site, it may collect anonymized page view data to help us understand which content is useful. Cloudflare's analytics tool is designed to be privacy-preserving and does not use cookies to track individual visitors across sessions or across websites.

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party advertising or tracking scripts.

What we do not use

  • Advertising or targeting cookies
  • Social media tracking pixels
  • Cookies that follow you to other websites
  • Any cookies that access your financial data (the budget tools do not use cookies at all)

3. Local storage (budget tools)

The KindMeans budget tools uses browser localStorage, not cookies. Local storage is a separate browser feature that stores data on your device only and cannot be read by us or any third party. It is not transmitted with requests the way cookies are.

You can clear your tool data at any time from within the tool's Export tab, or by clearing your browser's site data for kindmeans.com.

4. How to control cookies

You have several options for managing cookies:

  • Cookie preferences. Use the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer of any page to review or update your choices.
  • Browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. This may affect how some parts of the site work, but the budget tools will continue to function since it does not use cookies.
  • Browser-specific instructions:
    • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies
    • Firefox: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and Site Data
    • Safari: Preferences > Privacy
    • Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions

5. Updates to this policy

If we add new features that change how cookies are used, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Check back periodically if you want to stay current.
