Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 7, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how KindMeans ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use this website. We built KindMeans to help people get a clearer picture of their money without giving up their privacy to do it.

The short version: your financial data never leaves your device. The budget tools stores everything locally in your browser. We do not collect, transmit, or store any financial information on our servers.

1. What information we collect

We collect very little. Here is what may come to us depending on how you use the site:

  • Log and usage data. When you visit the site, Cloudflare (our hosting provider) automatically collects standard server log data. This may include your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring page, and the date and time of your visit. This is standard for any website and is not specific to KindMeans.
  • Device and location data. Cloudflare may determine approximate location based on your IP address (city or region level). We do not receive precise location data.
  • Contact information. If you contact us directly by email, we receive whatever you include in that message.

We do not collect names, email addresses, or any account information at this time. We have no signup form and no login system.

2. Budget tool data

The KindMeans budget tools stores all of your data locally in your browser using a feature called localStorage. This means:

  • Your budget, expenses, goals, and debt information never leave your device.
  • We cannot see, access, or recover your tool data.
  • If you clear your browser data, your tool data is deleted permanently.
  • If you use the export feature, your data is encrypted with a passphrase you choose before it is saved to a file on your device. We never receive that file or passphrase.

This is by design. Keeping your financial data off our servers is a core principle of how KindMeans works.

3. How we use information

The log data Cloudflare collects is used to keep the site running, diagnose technical problems, and understand general traffic patterns. We do not use it to build profiles of individual visitors or serve advertising.

4. Who we share information with

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers. The only third party that processes data as part of running this site is:

  • Cloudflare. Provides hosting, CDN, and security services. Cloudflare processes server log data as described above. See Cloudflare's privacy policy at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

If we ever add payment processing or other third-party services, this policy will be updated before that happens.

5. Cookies and tracking

We use a small number of cookies to make the site work properly. We do not use advertising cookies or cookies that track you across other websites.

For full details on what cookies are used and how to manage them, see our Cookie Policy.

You can update your cookie preferences at any time using the link in the footer of every page.

6. How long we keep information

Server log data is retained by Cloudflare per their standard data retention schedules. We do not maintain separate copies of log data.

If you contact us by email, we keep that correspondence for as long as it is relevant to the inquiry.

7. Security

The site is served over HTTPS. The budget tools's export feature uses AES-256-GCM encryption, which is a strong standard for protecting data at rest.

No system is perfectly secure. We do not make guarantees about the absolute security of information transmitted over the internet. The best protection we offer is simply not collecting your financial data in the first place.

8. Children under 18

KindMeans is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 years of age. If you believe a minor has used the site in a way that created a privacy concern, contact us at the address below.

9. Your rights

Because we collect very little information, there is not much to act on. That said, you have the right to:

  • Ask what information we hold about you
  • Request that we delete any information we have
  • Withdraw cookie consent at any time (see footer link)

To make any of these requests, email us at the address in the Contact section below. We will respond within a reasonable time.

10. US state privacy rights

If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, or another US state with privacy legislation, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, or delete data we hold about you.

Given the limited information we collect, most of these rights have limited practical application here. If you have questions about your rights under applicable state law, contact us and we will do our best to assist.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use personal information for targeted advertising.

11. Updates to this policy

We may update this policy if we add new features or services that change how information is collected or handled. When we do, the date at the top of this page will change. For significant changes, we will note them prominently on the site.
